The image is what I was given to work with to “fun up” an article. The writing is how I funned it up!

SMAC Sparks Off Sparkling 4th of July Celebration: You are invited!
The committee for the SMAC is planning a two-day event to show their pride in, and celebrate, the birthday of our wonderful country. You won’t want to miss it, so, even though it may seem a little early in the year still, please mark July 3rd and 4th on your calendar. There will be no R.S.V.P. required, just a willingness to enjoy! Do it now, as you will be kicking yourself, later, if you forget, and miss out on all the fun. The rest of us, who’ve already done it, will sit here with our newspapers in hand, humming hold-music and awaiting your return.
Are you back? Good on you! Now, let me tell you what you’d have been missing, if you’d gone all stubborn and refused to immediately jump up and mark your calendar. For, as we all know, life is looming with oddities, constantly waiting to distract us from the more important goals, and , so, the likelihood of you becoming so confused by episodes of Lost and/or whatever your neighbor seems to be up to with what they laughingly refer to as their lawn, that you would never have gotten around to it, later, was high.
Wait! You there, in the red t-shirt! You look like a person who might like to march about in front of others, or make them a tasty burger for profit! Get out your To Do list and write down that you need to get an application for entry into the parade, or a booth on the field. We’ll wait, again and gladly, since it’s going to benefit us, too. Yes, you in the blue shirt can go, too! In fact, any or all of you can. The more, the merrier! “Hmm .. hmmm .. hmm.. hmm .. tra la la …”. Ready? Okay!
On July 3rd, events will get underway with a night-time light parade, a free country western dance starring San Manuel’s very own Haywire, and the Mayor of San Manuel may be presumed upon to navigate the last sentence of the paragraph above, to the delight and amazement of all.
A disclaimer is in order, before finishing this article: That remark, about the Mayor, was solely meant for fun, and to point out how difficult that sentence was. Just constructing it put me in need of a truss! No actual Mayors were harmed in the making of this article.
The big day, the actual 4th of July, will be centered around the San Manuel swimming pool, football field, and adjacent parking lot, where many different events will be hosted, including a climbing wall, and the tossing of Mammothian citizenry back to their own pool.
A disclaimer seems to be in order, before continuing this article! That last sentence, in the above paragraph, was meant solely for amusement and was not intended as an insult towards the good citizens of the Town of Mammoth. To prove a lack of prejudice, I, the writer of this article, shall move to Mammoth. However, I shall still, at least part time, be going to the San Manuel pool, which was my point.
There will be fireworks, some of them before the 4th of July if I write any more sentences like that, but, the truly glorious ones will be on that very day. Before the fireworks, the names of service people, past and present, will be read, a student from the San Manuel High School band will play the Star Spangled Banner, and the local club will do a fly-over. Haywire will also be on hand, to provide more of their great entertainment, and a history of the flag will also be presented.
As in past years, donations made towards this event will be greatly appreciated, from individual or organizations. The goal is to raise $5,000 by May 10, which will allow the SMAC to increase their order by 10 % at no additional charge.
Are you getting in the mood for summer fun and frolic? Then, keep watching the San Manuel Miner for details on how you can help make this planned 4th of July event a memorable weekend for all.
